Calne Foundation Trust

Ways to give

We are proud to have a vibrant community of parents, alumnae and friends who are deeply committed to the future of our schools. Their generosity, through time, expertise and financial support, is vital in shaping the opportunities we offer. We are very grateful to all our supporters who choose to give regularly.

Bursaries, awards and transformational capital projects help ensure our exceptional education is accessible and continually evolving

Donations

Every gift helps shape the future for our pupils.

Whether you choose to give regularly or make a one-off donation, your generosity opens doors, nurtures ambition and creates life-changing opportunities. It helps us provide an exceptional education, support individual potential and ensure more young people can benefit from all St Mary’s Calne has to offer – now and for generations to come.

Bursaries and Scholarships

A St Mary’s Calne education is a life changing opportunity and every year we have more deserving girls with potential than we can support. Alumnae often tell us that their time here shaped who they are today, opening their eyes to new ideas, talents and possibilities. Thanks to the generosity of our community, our bursary programme is enabling more girls than ever to access this exceptional experience and we would like to offer more.

Through out 150 Society, our regular donors contribute to our bursary programme to open more doors, change more lives and secure a brighter future for generations to come.

Ways to give

Named Scholarships

With the support of The Calne Foundation Trust, you have the opportunity to establish a Named Scholarship in honour of your family or organisation. This is a powerful way to give the gift of education, offering transformative opportunities to young people with potential to flourish at Calne. Whether you’re leaving a legacy or commemorating someone special, your gift will open doors and shape brighter futures for years to come.

To explore setting up a Named Scholarship, please get in touch – we would be honoured to work with you to bring your vision to life.

How can you support a named scholarship

You can choose to support a named scholarship in one of two ways:

1. Capital donation to the Scholarship & Bursary Endowment Fund

An endowed scholarship is a lasting legacy. Your donation is invested and the income generated is used each year to fund a partial or full scholarship in perpetuity.

Examples of endowed scholarships:

  • £1.1m (or £880,000 + Gift Aid): funds a 100% scholarship
  • £825,000 (or £660,000 + Gift Aid): funds a 75% scholarship
  • £550,000 (£440,000 + Gift Aid): funds a 50% scholarship
  • £275,000 (or £220,000 + Gift Aid): funds a 25% scholarship

2. Annual donation to the Scholarship & Bursary Revenue Fund

An annual donation directly funds the boarding fees of a named student. A minimum commitment of two years is requested to support a Sixth Form student through their two years in the Sixth Form.

  • At current fees, this equates to a gift of £87,120 (day fee) or £116,820, plus an additional 10% to cover costs.

WAYS TO GIVE

Gifts of Stocks and Shares

Donating stocks and shares can be a highly tax-efficient way to give. UK residents and non-residents can claim income tax relief on the full market value of most qualifying shares, in addition to Capital Gains Tax (CGT) exemption.

For example, a gift of shares worth £10,000 (originally purchased for £6,000) could reduce a higher-rate taxpayer’s income tax bill by over £4,500, with further savings from the CGT. The actual cost of the gift could be less than half its value.

Qualifying investments include shares listed on recognised stock exchanges (including AIM), UK unit trusts, OEICs and some overseas investment schemes. Please consult your financial advisor before proceeding. We’re very happy to help with the next steps.

WAYS TO GIVE

The Gabriel Society

The Gabriel Society honours those who intend to leave a legacy to The Calne Foundation Trust. We respect your privacy and understand if you’d prefer to keep your plans confidential. If you choose to share your intention, we will record it as a non-binding statement, with the value kept confidential. As a member of the Gabriel Society, you’ll be invited to exclusive events and have your name added to our archive, unless you prefer to remain anonymous.

‘To be educated at St Mary’s Calne is to be part of something very special and potentially life changing.

As a Calne Girl, I have a huge appreciation of not only that education, but also the friends and experiences that St Mary’s gave me in the 1950s. I was there with Miss G (Elizabeth Gibbins). It was a formative time and I know the influence has gone on in our family for a further two generations. While the school has certainly undergone some significant improvements since my time, its central ethos of community, compassion and helping realise potential, is still at its heart.

I am therefore thrilled to be able to leave a legacy in my will to the Calne Foundation Trust Bursary Fund. This means future support for bursaries for girls who might previously have only been able to dream of being a part of such a special community.‘

Rachel Benson (nee Woods, Leaver 1961)
